What is Grammar?

Grammar is the body of rules that describe the structure of expressions in a language. This includes the structure of words, phrases, clauses and sentences. A text that contains more than one sentence is no longer in the realm of grammar, but instead is in the realm of discourse.

The grammar of a language is approached in two ways: descriptive grammar is based on analysis of text corpora and describes grammatical structures, whereas prescriptive grammar attempts to use the identified rules of a given language as a tool to govern the linguistic behaviour of speakers.

This site is an attempt to cover some "descriptive grammar" courses as a reference to English learners and teachers. To bring this into life, I googled here and there, checked this and that book gathering information. I Know that i did not come up with new things, but with new way of presenting things, using simple structures and clear explanations. I started with "words" as separated units ( parts of speech) moving to "phrases", then "simple, compound and complex sentences".

It is advised to "know" parts of speech, before you move on.
